About

daubawayweirdsley:

“The platea, then, is: “an opening in mise-en-scene through which the place and time of the stage-as-stage and the cultural occasion itself are made either to resist the socially and verbally elevated, spatially and temporally remote representation””

Can someone translate this for me please? My vague idea about writing an essay on forests in Shakespeare’s plays has somehow resulted in reading books on theories of space….oh dear.

…I feel like there’s at least one missing clause here. The stalls bring you into the artificial world of the play? To be honest this makes less sense to me than the French newspaper I was translating with my horrible GCSE French earlier on. (Long story.)
